From powerful narratives that move us to thought-provoking works that challenge our perspectives, each of these gems has left an indelible mark on me. Get comfortable with a cup of tea and join me as we explore some of the most remarkable reads in contemporary literature. Let’s get started!

Demon Copperhead  by Barbara Kingsolver

Demon Copperhead is a coming-of-age novel by Barbara Kingsolver, inspired by Charles Dickens' David Copperfield. Set in the Appalachian Mountains of the contemporary United States, it tells the story of Demon, a boy born into poverty who faces hardship and social injustice throughout his life. The novel explores themes of resilience, family, loss, and the struggles of those living in rural America.

Trust by Hernan Diaz

Trust, a 2022 Pulitzer Prize winning novel by Hernan Diaz, explores the story of a wealthy financier and his wife through multiple narratives and perspectives. It's a metafictional novel, meaning it plays with the concept of fiction itself. Set in New York City, the book delves into themes of wealth, power, deception, and the American dream. The reader joins a quest to uncover the truth about the characters' lives, questioning the reliability of storytellers and the myths surrounding immense wealth.

Prophet Song by Paul Lynch

Prophet Song is a dystopian novel by Paul Lynch that won the 2023 Booker Prize. It follows Eilish Stack, a mother in Ireland, as her country descends into totalitarianism. The story focuses on her fight to keep her family safe in a rapidly deteriorating society. The book is known for its suspenseful atmosphere and exploration of themes like family, sacrifice, and resistance.
